When I started making photographs in New York I was conflicted about shooting street with a 35mm. I wasn’t exactly sure what style of street really interested me. In the course of shooting I would always find myself heading to busy streets if I wasn’t in the flow. The great thing about shooting street in New York is you can always count on having people around, just about anywhere, so there’s always the opportunity to sharpen the trigger. These days I prefer to be further back when I’m shooting people in public. I have a sense of the type of images I want, but I’m not sure if I’m getting the photographs. However, I’ve stopped thinking about, and haven’t really found myself gravitating to those busy streets much these days. I’ve been working on a couple new ideas the last few months and those busy streets just don’t seem to factor into the equation that much. But I’m happy their always there. You can always go back to the street.
