As I was strolling around Venice today I started to think about the Obama iconography. There should be no question about were my affiliation resides, even so, I must admit that there’s something a bit disturbing about the pedastal Obama is being placed on. It does feel a bit too messianic for me at times. The man still is an American politician, and as inspirational as he maybe, it’s kind of absurd to believe that he’ll completely ‘change the world’ if he does win tomorrow.
Another thing that struck me is how much of the iconography has a street art feel, primarily due to Obey work. Even with that subversive street feel, it’s still at the service of a billion dollar campaign. It’s a complex issue and I’m sure there will be dozens of books written about the campaign. I’d certainly be interested in a book or essay on the iconography.
A few more pix after the jump….
I knew it might not be the best day to photograph with all the clouds. I ate a few tacos, then started wandering around Los Feliz, planning on walking down to Echo Park. But my plans were quickly interrupted when the rains came. On top of that I forgot to re-charge the batter on my camera so I figured I should just pack it in early and try again tomorrow. I’ll probably start in Silver Lake this time and then head into Echo Park.
